UNDER 12 CONNACHT SHIELD: STRAND CELTIC 5 ATHENRY 0
Strandhill Community Park
Having advanced to the premier division of the Sligo/Leitrim league on the previous weekend our under 12 team advanced to the last eight of the connacht shield with a comprehensive victory over a resolute Athenry side on Saturday afternoon last.
Our lads set out strongly from the start and with some sublime passing created several chances. Jack Keegan did well to fire home the first goal after Aiden Kenny did some great work down the right hand side. David Hines added the second after fifteen minutes when he slotted home after a good interchange between Mark McCallion and James Hampson. Our third arrived from a superb header by Ryan McManus after a great delivery from James Hampson. Jack Keegan added another and David Hines also got his second as half time approached.
Dylan Doherty came in for the second half and showed some lovely touches on the left hand side of the park. We created several more chanes with some lovely passing. We grabbed another goal late on with a strike by Shane McCallion.
The players man of the match award went to our centre forward David Hines who grabbed a hat trick.
Our lads now advance to the quarter final where they will play either Swinford or Claregalway in the middle of January.
