SUPER LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC 3 AUGHANAGH CELTIC 2
Strandhill Community Park
Our senior side came through a difficult super league game on Sunday morning last against a revitalised Aughanagh Celtic side. Aughanagh’s previous league form was left behind as they pushed the home side all the way to the end before Strand Celtic took all three points with two late goals.
Aughanagh started the game brightly and took advantage of the elements to lead by a goal to nil. Strand equalised prior to half time when Marcel Gordon fired home from a corner.
While Strand dominated the early part of the second half it was Aughanagh who took the lead mid way through the half. Strand took the initiative but could not find any way past a superb Aughanagh keeper.
The breakthrough came with ten minutes left when from a Damien Scanlon cross Donagh Oates fired a header home to equalise. Minutes later Dean Deering flicked a cross into the bottom corner to seal all three points.
This was a vital three points for our senior team and keeps them well in contention at the top of the table. |
