Our under nine and under team squads played their first blitz of the season with fixtures against Merville, Ballisodare and Cliffoney-Grange on Sunday afternoon last. The blitz was played in sunny both cold conditions.
We had three squads of ten players in action and it was great to see the young players in action for the first time this season. The level of skill was very high and our players tried to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible.
While there were lots of stars on the day special mention must go to Eoin Macken whose ‘Messi’ style dribble in one game left the Merville defenders for dead. Equally his tenacious tackling belied his size as time and time again he threw himself into tackles to come away with the ball. Sean Callaghan also starred as he proved to be the new ‘Robbie Keane’ with his eye for goal and neat finishes as he top scored on the day.
Many thanks to Ballisodare United who organised the tournament and to the other teams who took part Merville United and Cliffoney/Grange. All the teams played in the right spirit and were well matched.
Well done to all the coaches on the day AJ Cogan, Paul Higgins, Damien McCallion, Brendan Crowne, Adrian Burke, Robert Ryan, Eammon Kielty |
