UNDER 12 DEVT LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC GREENS 4 BALLYGAWLEY 2
Showgrounds
Strand Celtic Whites won their third game in a row when coming from a goal down at half time to beat Ballygawley by four goals to two in the showgrounds on Saturday afternoon last.
Perhaps most pleasing is the style of football that the squad are playing with the emphasis of passing and movement.
Playing with the wind in the first half,Strand dominated proceedings but failed to make their posession count and went a goal behind on 15 mins to a quick counter attack. Our goalkeeper Jack Burke and back four of Daniel Kilgallon, captain Liam Fitzgerald,Mickey Reddin and Jack Gilligan,in fairness, could not be faulted as for that period of time, they had been nearly inactive. We kept plugging away and eventually equalised with a great finish from Cillian Egan with good support play from Liam Henehan.
With honours even at the break, and playing into a strenghtening wind in the second half,Strand again made the early running only to fall behind again to the sucker punch.
As the half wore on ,however, the sheer resilliance of this group of young footballers began to shine through.Mark Keegan and Ronan Walsh,on the left and Corban Kenny along with Liam Ryan,on the right, with the promtings of Shay Doherty and Cian Bree-Galvin were completly dominating midfield and on 45 mins we once more drew level.Forwards Dion Higgins and Cilllian Egan forcing a Ballygawley defender into scoring an own goal.
It was now game on.David Gaynor came on to give great support on the left and Ben Carrol also came on to make his debut and played very well.
With 10 mins left, a lovely passage of play saw Liam Ryan give us a well deserved lead and with 5 mins up popped Liam again to put the game beyond doubt.
Well done to all concerned for a well deserved win. A good team performance and well done to the squad and managers Gerry Doherty, Paul Higgins and Peter Galvin. |
