SUPER LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC 1 CITY UNITED 3
Strandhill Community Park
Our senior team went down to the league leaders in a super league clash at a windswept strandhill community park on Sunday morning last.
Strand played with a strong wind advantage in the first half and took the lead in the 15th minute through a well taken Dean Deering goal and had the opportunity to increase the lead on a number of occasions. City did not sit back and kept the pressure on the Strand defence. They leveled the game on the 31st minute when a cross was deflected into the Strand goal for an OG. The first half finished level at 1-1.
The turning point in the game came on the hour mark when City's Lee Marshall was impeded when going through and a penalty was awarded. The penalty was scored by Keith Nibbs. Strand continued to take the game to City even playing into a very strong wind and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. The result was put beyond doubt with 10 minutes remaining when the ever dangerous Marshall deflected a free kick into the Strand goal.
