BOYS UNDER 18 LEAGUE : BALLISODARE UTD 2 STRAND CELTIC 4
Ballisodare Community Park

Strand won their second league match against Ballisodare at under 18 level on a 4-2 score line in Ballisodare community park on thursday night last.

Strands young team fielded 80% of players from their under 16 team which in itself is a great testament to our under 16 panel. The team line with Vinne Cadden in goals who made many great saves during this tight match, Conor McDonagh ,Paul Devins,Graham Kelly all U16 and with Ciaran White all had a solid game in defence and they also passed the ball well to start our attack from the back line through to midfield.

Our midfield had two experienced U18’s in the middle James Thompson who never stop running forward in attack and also getting back to help in defence, with this James score our second goal and was man of the match. Conor Gray lead by example by holding our midfield and did hard work in defence in the last 20minutes ,both Anthony Kelly and Niall Colleary did very well running the lines to support our two strikers and getting back to put strong tackles in defence from this Niall scored 2 goals for himself.

Up front our two strikers were our U16 Adam Hynes who did some good running into space and going back to help our midfield in defence Adam also got on the score sheet after some great attacking play with both good passing and running with the ball, with Adam in attack was Barry Anderson who was our strong man up front, holding the ball and passing off wide to our supporting midfield he would reminder you of a good old centre forward.

Cormac Doherty came on up front for Barry Anderson and for a lad very young was brilliant with his ball control and running with the ball. Andre Gorman came on for the last 10 minutes and also did well for himself.

From our first two games our U18 had good results but we hope to have more of our under 18’s back in the coming weeks because our U16’s cannot keep going playing in both leagues. The club would like to thank all our U16’s making themselves available.
