BOYS UNDER 12 FRIENDLY: CALRY BOHS 1 StrAND CELTIC 0
Hazelwood Park
Our under 12 squad turned in a fine performance in going down one nil to Calry Bohemians in hazelwood on saturday afternoon last. It was a busy morning as this game followed an under 16 game between the same two sides !.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half our lads started brightly and had several chances through Luke Nicolson and Jack Keegan. Although the wind made it difficult for Calry they counter attacked well and Ronan Redmond and Jackson Smith had to be alert to the lively calry centre forward. Matthew Cosgrove was assured as ever and made two fine interventions to stop Calry scoring. The breakthrough came when the calry centre forward got behind the defence and scored mid way through the first half. With the aid of the breeze strand had the lions share of possession but despite some excellent work by James Hampson on the right hand side they failed to really trouble the calry keeper. Calry on the other hand were very dangerous on the counter attack with their two centre midfielders particularly strong.
All of the strand squad got a run in the second half and indeed Dylan Doherty brought a real spark of life into the game with several fine runs and efforts on goal. Luke Nicolson also had a good shot saved while Cian McGovern fired just wide with another chance.
All in all this was a good workout for both sides with their league opening on Tuesday evening. |
