UNDER 14 WHITE TAKE DERBY SPOILS
U14 DIV ONE LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL: STRAND CELTIC 5 STRAND CELTIC GREEN 1
Strandhill Community Park
The clash that no one wanted unfortunately materialised in the semi final of the U14 division one on Wednesday night last at Strandhill community park. While the result was probablay never in question once the white team took the led the green squad kept battling hard throughout the game.
There were early chances for the whites with a solid defensive formation of Barry, Gillen, McCormack and Comerford all keeping the hard working Aiden Toal at bay. With the wide players constatnyl threatening McGovern and Conway were both getting behind the greens defensive line and getting deliveries into the danger zone. The deadlock was broken after ten minutes when a through ball from Mark McCallion released Carlos Casciallana who won the race for the ball with goalkeeper Matthew Cosgrove to prod the ball home.
Ten minutes later it was tow with a superb goal that you would travel anywhere to see. A long cross from Dylan Conway on the right went across the box and was watched all the way by our Sevilla player, Carlos Casciallana. No one could have expected what happened next. Carlos sprung in mid air and fired a bicycle kick over his head and into the opposite corner of the goal. A truly wonderful goal from a great talent.
The game opened up after this and McCabe added a third just before half time despite some great defensive work by Diarmud Loftus and James Hampson.
The second half turned into a one sided affair with further goals by McCabe, Casciallana and McCallion. Dylan Doherty grabbed one back for the greens after a long range effort by the hard working Aidan Toal.
The whites move on to the division one final on Thursday night next against Calry or Enniscorne and if they apply themselves properly they will be well placed to take the title home to Strandhill. The greens can be produ of their season as this was the first time the club has entered two under 14 teams. After a tough start during the grading grouping they battled back well to qualify from their section for the semi-finals. Well done to their manager Brian Redmond who has worked hard with these lads all season and has ensured that all the lads got plenty of football to help with their development. Also sincere thanks to his management team of Justin Harte and Peter Galvin who have also given their time and knowledge to help the lads during the season.
