This match marks the first every U18 girls league game and another landmark achievement for Sligo/Leitrim girls football.
Strand Celtic started the game with 9 players And played the opening 40 mins defending their own goal. Arrow Harps were able to field a much older group of girls a lot of whom had dusted the cobwebs off their soccer boots to play their first game in 2 years. Arrow Harps were very unlucky not to have opened the scoring. Their goal scoring opportunities were scuppered thanks to good defending by Niamh Kelly, Claire Horan, lisa Melly, and Aisling Gilligan. Both teams were scoreless when the ref blew to indicate half time.
The second half saw the introduction of late arrivals Aoife Burns, and Irish international Brona Kierns. As the second half progressed Arrow Harps tired Brona Kierns ,Emma hansbury, and Amy Norman stepped up the pace. Resulting in Strand dominating possession for the entire second half.
Bronagh Keirns opened the scoring midway through the second half and Arrow Harps imploded. Brona capped a towering display with two more goals and rising Under 16 star also scored two fantastic goals.
