CARLOS FOUR GOALS BRING VICTORY FOR UNDER 14s

UNDER 14 LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC 5 BALLYGAWLEY CELTIC 0
Strandhill Community Park

Our under 14 side opened up the league part of their campaign with a good victory over a strong and resolute Ballygawley United side on Saturday afternoon last. Four goals from Carlos with further goals from Mark McCallion and David Joyce gave our lads victory.

The game was well balanced in the opening stages before Carlos got his first goal after some good approach work between Luke Nicolson and Kealan McCabe. He god have grabbed a second moments later when he first saw a long range shot fizzle just wide and the keeper pulled off an outstanding save from a second shot. The second goal came moments later when Carlos scored from close range after good work by the excellent Dylan Conway. Ballygawley should have pulled one back minutes later but Kevin Kelly narrowed his angles well to force the striker to fire wide. Half time came with the two goals separating the sides.

Ten minutes into the second half the game was over as a contest as Carols grabbed two further goals in quick succession after good approach play between Jamie Gillen and David Joyce. Mark McCallion added a fifth with a good strike from outside the box before David Joyce fired home the last goal in injury time from close range.

This wasa good performance from our under 14 side as they played some good open football. At the back Ronan McCormack and Jamie Gillen were dominant while the midfield quartet worked hard with Dylan Conway a particular threat with his pace and crossing a continuous threat. Up front Carlos close control and pace caused untold problems and he was well supported by Luke Nicolson.
