GIRLS UNDER 14 LEAGUE: STRAND CELTIC 3 INNISFREE-BALLYGAWLEY 2
Strandhill
Strand Celtic U14 girls had a hard earned win over Innisfree Ballygawley in Strandhill on a very wet Saturday morning in May. After going 2 goals down Strand fought back hard in an excellent second half to win 3-2 in the end.
Both teams were without several of their starting 11 on the day but fortunatley luckily for Strand they came out on top and therefore keeping their chances of a top 4 place alive.
Innisfree Ballygawley started the stronger and were 1 goal up before Strand had time to settle. A slip up in midfield by Strand resulted in Innisfree Ballygawley getting a second chance totally against the run of play and scoring their second.
After a very strong team talk during half time Strand started the second half a much more determined team. Claire Hanney and Ellie McCole on either side of midfield ran at the Innisfree Ballygawley defence and caused many problems for them. Claire was rewarded with a fine goal early in the second half when she ran from the half way line beating her player and finishing well. Strand were well on top all through the second half and scored twice more, one from Shannon Dykes and another from Claire Hanney.
A much need win for Strand to keep them in contention for a top 4 playoff.
