Darren commenced his career at Sallynoggin club, St. Joseph’s Boys, in the same club team as Paul McShane and Andrew Keogh and chose to join Manchester City as an apprentice but a broken arm curtailed his progress and he returned to Ireland where he joined UCD.
He switched to Derry City at the start of 2008 and agreed a one-year loan move to Sporting Fingal for the 2009 campaign which he turned permanent twelve months later.
Darren has considerable International experience, enjoying an extended spell as Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper in 2006 and also won a B cap the same year against Scotland.
His displays during last year’s promotion winning season earned him a nomination from the Soccer Writers Association of Ireland for goalkeeper of the year.
