Sporting Fingal’s Under-20 side have made it to the quarter-final for the second year running and will now travel to Drogheda United on Saturday.
The side, managed by Jacko McDonagh and coached by Robbie Mohan, won their last two games of the group to finish second behind leaders Bohemians and clinch a place in the last-eight.
Six points from the concluding two games were essential for Fingal’s prospects of qualification and they started with aplomb by beating Longford 6-0 at home.
Things look far from rosy in the following match when Shelbourne swept into an internal lead but they reacted in style in the second half by converting three of their several chances to win 3-1.
St. Patrick’s Athletic were Fingal’s main challengers for that crucial second spot but their loss to Athlone Town in the final game proved pivotal.
Best of luck to the lads this weekend!
