Maher to miss Mervue replay

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 By John Fallon @ 9:42 AM :: Club News

Shaun Maher will miss Sporting Fingal’s FAI Ford Cup third round replay at Mervue United on Tuesday due to suspension.

The centre-back was sent-off when they the holders opened their defence with a 1-1 draw against the Galway side at Morton Stadium on June 4.

Maher played in Fingal’s 1-0 win against Galway United on Friday in the Airtricity League Premier Division but sits out the club’s second visit to Terryland Park in the space of four days.

Also unavailable are injured duo Keith Quinn (foot) and Colin Hawkins (broken ribs). Quinn should be recovered in time for Friday’s visit of Dundalk while Hawkins is on the comeback trail too having resumed full training this week.

Fingal manager Liam Buckley has his sights firmly set on progressing to the next round of the Cup.

“Mervue United tested us in the first match at Morton and we’ll have to be sharper to get through this replay,” he said.

“We’ve a proud FAI Ford Cup record in our previous two years and will take this game very seriously. I’ll be putting out our strongest available starting side.

“The Terryland pitch the lads played on last Friday was in much better condition that when we visited earlier in the season so that’s to be welcomed.

“Our win at Galway United was imperative our league prospects and we’ll be looking for another victory to maintain hopes of repeating last season’s triumph in the competition.”
