Ireland has had many successful Paralympics athletes over the years, but none have been quite as successful as Dave Malone. Dave has competed in 4 Paralympics games taking silver medals in Atlanta and Athens and coming home with a gold medal from Sydney in 2000. On top of his Paralympics success Dave is also a former world and European champion.

After the Beijing Paralympics, where he was narrowly beaten in his heat Dave retired to concentrate on his coaching and has since taken up a new role as head of Irish Paralympic Swimming, so while his days in the pool may be up Dave will still have a big say in Irelands future medal hopes.
Recently Dave kindly took time out of his busy schedule to meet with children participating on a Sporting Fingal Community Trust summer camp in Corduff Sports Centre that was taking place in partnership with Blanchardstown Youth Services.

The children benefited from hearing about life as a Paralympics Athlete as well as the overall benefits that sport can have on your life. The children were lucky enough to get to hold Dave’s gold medal from Sydney as well as his Silver from Athens.

Everyone lucky enough to meet Dave benefited from the wisdom he passed down and Programme Manager for the Community Trust, Stephen Mc Ginn said “The Community Trust was delighted that an athlete as successful and passionate about sport as Dave would come and talk to the children about the benefit of sport in your life. One of the pillars of the Community Trust is Community and Sport Development and a key part to this is not only playing as much sport as possible but also understanding the reasons why sport is so pivotal to a healthy and balanced lifestyle”
