Connacht Shield Semi-Final:  St Joseph’s  6   Ballinrobe 0

The lads put in one of their best performances of the season to totally outplay a decent Mayo side and advance to the Connacht final. From the start, St Joseph’s went on the attack and looked dangerous every time they went forward, with Damian Duff and Darragh Kildea flying down the wings and getting in some good crosses.  Strikers, Ciaran Lennon and Ian Naughton put the home side two up at half-time with composed finishing under pressure.  Ballinrobe came out strongly at the start of the second half but with Eoin O’Neil and Sean Fallon at the back, and Niall Fowler as solid as ever in goal, the visitors could not find a way through. Full backs, Kevin Kelly and David McManus were always ready to push forward and used the ball very well.  With Niall Connaghton and Harry O’Rourke dominating in midfield it was no surprise when more goals came. Ciaran Lennon scored with a great strike, Niall Connaghton got a fine goal and captain Ian Naughton completed his hat-trick.  Brian Hannon almost scored the seventh after a superb move from back to front.  Overall this was a great display of incisive passing, determined tackling and good finishing. Roll on the Final in Athlone....
