Premiership : Liverpool 3 Man Utd 1
A superb hat-trick by Dirk Kuyt and some mesmerising football by Luis Suarez capped a fantastic all round team performance by the home side to see off the feeble challenge of the visitors who seemed to be somewhat overawed by the occasion.
U12 Div1: Kinnegad 2 St Joseph’s Rebels 4
St Joseph’s travelled to Kinnegad on Saturday and came away with a well deserved victory. The visitors started well and had the best of the early play with Alex Francis and Ruairi Lenehan winning the midfield tussle and creating several good chances. The breakthrough came on 20 mins after a Cormac Golden shot hit the crossbar and rebounded to Joey Howard who hit an unstoppable shot to give Joseph’s the lead. However, the Kinnegad response was immediate as the equaliser came within a minute of the restart. The period before half time saw Kinnegad pushing for a second but the defensive quartet of Aaron West, Ciaran Tumulty, Callum O’Brien and Galen Crehan, together with Peter Foley in goal, were a match for the home sides threat. The start of the 2nd half saw Joseph’s on the attack and some great work by Keelan Kilroy almost resulted in a second goal for the visitors. The pressure paid off soon after as Evan Warby set off on a great run and crossed for Denji Adeyele who then coolly beat the last defender and slotted the ball home to give Joseph’s the lead. The Rebels 3rd goal came with 10 mins to go as Ruairi Lenehan beat the off-side trap and finished confidently. Kinegad then reduced the deficit to one goal and it took a super intervention by David Finneran to deny the home side the equaliser. The result was then put beyond doubt with another goal from Ruairi Lenehan in the last minute. Well done lads on a great performance all round. |
