Match Report SFAI Cup First Round- Sat 17th Oct 2009
Castlepollard 0 - Colga 8
It was Colga U11 first cup outing and first away international ( Across the Shannon). Colga survived a few hairy moments in the first 15 minutes , saved largely by great defending from Oisin Goeghan and Mark Comerford and an inspired Eddie Madden in goals. Colga began to settle in mid field and Evain Niland followed up a shot to crash the ball home. Colga 1 up, Castlepollard contiued to press but Andrew Monaghan got Colga second a few minutes later on a breakaway movement driven by William Corcoran. Play between the team was still even but Evain Niland got Colga's third just before half time. In second half, Colga playing with greater confidence , Cian Salmon and Mark Buckley controlling the back easily, Ronan Walsh and Conor O' Flaherty also doing well in midfield with two wingers Patrick Foley and William Corcornan continuing to press. In the end , the potent strike force of Evain Niland and Andrew Monaghan turned on the style ending with a Hat Trick Each. Adam O Callaghan cam on as sub and played up front for second half and some beautiful touches around the box by Adam provided two gaols for William Corcoran who finished well. Paul O Donaghue came on at full back and moved up the wings well. All in all a great team performance.
