History of Colga Football Club

Colga F.C. was formed in March 1996, and officially opened in June 1996. It commenced competing in the 1996- 1997 season , and has competed in every season since at various levels.The club has been in existence since 1996 and has used a number of facilities over the years, depending on the goodwill of local landowners or the Brothers Of Charity in Kilcornan.

Our players come from the villages surrounding Clarinbridge namely, Kilcolgan, Killeeneen, Ardrahan, Labane, Ballindereen and Kinvara. We also have players from other towns and villages in the south Galway area. Our Junior (adult) team is currently in the Galway and district League division one.

At this stage in our development we have in the region of 570 playing members ranging in age from under 6 to adult. This gives the club access to approx 300 households in the locality.

We have finally managed to complete the purchase of some land close to Clarinbridge which, we feel, will be a very suitable home for our club. We have very ambitious plans for the facility to include a number of playing pitches, clubhouse and all-weather facilities. We are currently completing the design of our facilities and the fundraising effort has begun. We have survived to date on the goodwill of the playing community but more importantly the families of the players. We will again be asking them to support us and we know there is continuing goodwill for the club but we are anxious to lighten the load on the members, especially in these times.
