In front of our largest attendance this season, our development team took on fellow league leaders Ballisodare United last Saturday in Cliffoney.
This game had all the ingredients for an excellent match and both teams lived up to that billing. The game started with Ballisodare creating a couple of half chances before the home team took an early lead with an excellent finish from Cathal Herron.
Play went from end to end keeping the supporters engrossed until Herron beat the goalkeeper to the ball to score his second. If the home supporters thought that this was going to be another easy win, Ballisodare had other ideas and reduced the deficit to one goal after a great finish on the counter-attack to leave the score 2 – 1 at half time.
The second half started with the away team again creating a couple of chances but with Darragh Elliott dealing expertly with all that was thrown at him, Ballisodare could not get the equaliser they hoped.
10 minutes into the second half Cathal Herron scored his third goal and quickly followed up with his fourth after a classy finish. Jerome Keegan finished off the move of the game with an excellent finish. Ballisodare to their credit continued to play attractive football but were unable to find a way past Elliott in goal.
Darrell Leydon and Matthew Lowe marshalled the defence with assurance and style. Conor Colreavy and Elliott Wrenne continue to produce performance that any player would be proud off. In mid-field the heartbeat of the team Diarmuid Gallagher and Morgan Pender played with great passion, determination and class. Louie McCormack and Ronan Keegan are always making themselves available to receive the ball, make intelligent runs and deliver great service for our strikers.
Our strikers Josh Richie and man of the match Cathal Herron continue to terrorise defences with their pace, control and deadly finishing. Jerome Keegan has the power and pace to trouble any team and took his goal brilliantly. Darius Cawley produced another classy display at left back while Colm Clancy made some excellent tackles, determined runs and was un-lucky not to score.
Donal Ryan again played with skill, intelligence and set up some great chances. This was our best display of the season to date and great credit is due to all players.
Thanks again to our magnificent supporters.
Our next game is against local rivals Yeats United in Cliffoney @1.00pm on next Saturday. Thanks also to John O’Grady and Cliffoney Celtic F.C. for the use of their excellent facility. |
